Kaspersky rolls out free antivirus software globally

Kaspersky has finally rolled out its free antivirus- Kaspersky Free in the selected region. The software will be released globally by November this year. Check out the details inside

Kaspersky Lab has finally launched the free version of its antivirus software–Kaspersky Free in select regions. The Russian cyber security company had launched the trial version of the software for testing in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, China and in Nordic Countries which includes Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway last year. “And on July 25 – for our 20th birthday – the product will start being officially launched!,” company founder Eugene Kaspersky wrote in a blog post.

Kaspersky’s free antivirus includes ‘bare essentials’ which means that while it would be protecting your files and emails along with ensuring that you get automatic updates and protection against quarantine; you would not get benefits of the company’s paid services like parental control, Secure Connection and online payment protection. The premium version of Kaspersky antivirus is available at a nominal price of $50 (Rs 3,200 approx).

Interestingly, most free anti-virus software are filled with advertisements. However, Kaspersky Free works differently as it uses machine learning technology to collect data from all its users and improve the performance of all its products.

But there’s a catch. Kaspersky Free won’t be available globally instantaneously. Kaspersky, in a blog post, explained that the software would be rolled out in four phases based on the regions. The first phase will cover– the US, Canada and some Asia Pacific nations. The second phase, which will take place in September, will include India, Middle East, Turkey, Hong Kong, Africa and Latin America. The third phase will take place in October and it will include nations like Europe, South Korea and Japan. As a part of the final phase, the software will be made available in Thailand and Vietnam.
