Lawsuit accuses Bose headphones of spying on users: report

Beware! Bose is spying on its customers through headphones

Bose corporation, the American giant best known for its home audio systems and headphones, has been accused of spying on its customers wirelessly through its headphones and selling their private information without permission for monetary gains. The lawsuit filed in the Chicago federal court seeks millions of dollars from the company for violating the privacy rights.

According to Reuters report, the lawsuit filed by Kyle Zak, claims that Bose uses its smartphone app– Bose Connect app to spy on its users. The company encourages its customers to download the app “to get the most out of your headphones” asking them to fill in basic information like name, email address and details of their Bose headphone.

Zak has accused Bose of acting in “wholesale disregard” of the privacy of its customers and has sought an injunction to stop the same.

The report further suggests that Zak downloaded the Bose Connect app after paying $350 for his QuietComfort 35 headphones. However, he was shocked to know that the company sent all media information available on his smartphone to third parties such as Segment.io, whose website claims to collect data from every customer and ‘send it anywhere’.

Now Zak is seeking millions of dollars in damages from Bose for buyers of headphone and speakers. He also wants the company to put a halt to the practice as it violates the US federal Wiretap Act and Illinois state laws against consumer fraud.
