Kerala Tourism pays cheeky homage to the Taj Mahal in these trying times

Amid the debate on the Taj Mahal's Indianness, the Kerala Tourism posted a tweet defending the Mughal monument for "inspiring millions to discover India."

The official Twitter handle of Kerala Tourism often tweets about all the wondrous places God’s Own Country has to offer. However, on Wednesday, the handle stepped out of its boundary to extend praise to a certain Mughal era monument that has been in the news of late. Kerala Tourism tweeted about the Agra’s Taj Mahal, praising the beautiful marble monument that’s listed under one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The tweet came in mere weeks after Uttar Pradesh tourism somehow omitted mention the major destination spot… wait for it… in its official list of tourist attractions of the state.

The Taj Mahal, which is a tomb built by emperor Shah Jahan for his favourite queen, Mumtaz Mahal, is arguably India’s most popular monument. In 2007, the monument was even declared the winner of the New7Wonders of the World initiative and is also a recognised UNESCO world heritage site. It attracts millions of visitors from across the globe every year. So it came as no surprise that a lot of people weren’t too happy about it being disregarded as a tourist attraction.

Amid the debate on the Taj’s ‘Indianness’, the Kerala Tourism tweeted:

God’s Own Country salutes the #TajMahal for inspiring millions to discover India. #incredibleindia pic.twitter.com/TXqSXQ9AYQ

Despite the Taj being a huge tourist attraction, it seems the Yogi Adityanath-led state government has not been doing enough to promote the monument. Recently, BJP Parliamentarian Subramanian Swamy also decided to weigh in on the debate and said the monument rests ‘on stolen property’. Earlier last week, BJP legislator and Muzaffarnagar riot accused Sangeet Som stated the Taj was built by a “traitor” and did not represent Indian culture.

Post Kerala Tourism’s unexpected but welcome savagery, Twitter experienced a wide range of emotions.. From getting angry:

Till now, the Kerala Commie pigs didnt realize that TM was in India? Thanks to BJP Govt. in UP.

Unfortunately, some people don’t want India to get discovered by world. They have nothing to show of their own, but a lot to hide.

BJP – take a hike! You can never defile the Taj Mahal. It’s beauty, poetry and mystique will always triumph over your filthy politics.
