Singer and composer Adnan Sami has been known for voicing his opinions stirred a Twitter debate after he challenged the Muslim clerics all over the world and asked them to issue a fatwa against the royal family of Saudi Arabia. Recently, Muslim clerics in Assam had issued a fatwa (an official statement) against a teenager Nahid Afreen and asked her to stop singing in public as it was considered ‘haram’ (forbidden) in Islam.
Posting a video where the members of the royal family of Saudi Arabia are doing a sword dance with the US President Donald Trump, Adnan Sami tweeted ‘Dear Muslim Clerics, U all claim music is haram in Islam? This is Saudi Arabia. This is song n dance by its Royalty! Whr r ur fatwas now?!’
He took a dig at all the Muslim clerics who think music is haram in Islam and while only a few on Twitter agreed with him, he was majorly thrashed for his argument and received a lot of flak. Some went to the extent of calling him a ‘a lover of Tareq Fatah’, writer and political activist, who often appears on news channels to vociferously oppose archaic Islamic traditions and customs.
Adnan Sami did not take it lying down and was really quick in responding to each and every tweet that came his way and challenged everyone with his logic. Some of the conversations were indeed interesting.
