FAQ: 10 things you must know if you are applying for an undergraduate course at Delhi University

It’s admission time! The Delhi University on May 22 began the online registration for merit-based courses for all its affiliated colleges. The online registration for these undergraduate courses will go on until June 12. For entrance based colleges, the registration will begin on May 31. Reports suggest that Delhi University’s official registration website saw 200 registrations in just the first 10 minutes of being thrown open for applications.

In this admission season when students apply for a wide variety of colleges, there are a lot of questions about admissions that they have in mind. Here are 10 most common questions that students have before applying at the Delhi University and their answers for you!

1) When will the cut off lists be announced?
The Delhi University will announce 6 cut off lists. The timeline for these are:
First list: Tuesday, 20th June 2017
Second list: Saturday, 24th June 2017
Third list: Saturday, 1st July 2017
Fourth list: Friday, 7th July 2017
Fifth list: Thursday, 13th July 2017
Sixth list: Tuesday, 18th July 2017

2) Can students apply for multiple courses?
Yes, students can apply for programmes and courses that too without any additional fees.

3) What are the documents needed for the application form?
Students must be very careful while uploading the documents as once uploaded, these details cannot be changed. Before the students file the application form, they must have the following documents in possession:
a) Passport size photograph
b) Scanned signature
c) Self-attested Class XII Mark-Sheet
d) Self-attested copy of SC/ST/OBC/PwD/KM/CW valid certificate, if applicable
e) Self-attested copies of Sports/ECA certificates, if applicable

4) Is online registration enough or offline forms also need to be filled up?
There is no need to fill the hard copy of a form if an aspirant has successfully filled up the online registration and made the payment.

5) Can the “Applicant’s details” once filled be changed?
Applicant details once filled during the time of registration cannot be changed. Hence students should be extremely careful in filling the information. Even the choice of examination centre once selected by the candidate cannot be changed after the online registration has bee completed.

6) How is the best-of-four aggregate calculated?
The best-of-four aggregate of marks that students need to fill for admissions in the undergraduate programme is calculated by taking into account the marks scored in one language, two academic or elective subjects and the subject in which the candidate is seeking admissions.

7) Can students select a course for admission which I did not study in school?
Students will be able to select a course of their choice even if they did not have it as a part of their syllabus in school. However, the there will be a deduction of 2.5% from the ‘Best Four Subjects’ aggregate. Also, there is a disadvantage of up to 5% if there is a change of stream.

8) What is the admission policy once students fill the form?
If the students meet the cut-off, they are selected for the admission. There is no first come first serve policy in the admission process.

9) Is there a fee concession available?
The registration fee is compulsory which is to be given at the time of filing the application form. There can be concessions for admission fee but only after students get admitted to the college. Each college different rules and guidelines for the same.

10) Do students who have taken a gap face or earlier got a supplementary face any disadvantage?

Students applying after a gap of a year or so are not at any disadvantage as long as they meet the requisite criteria for admission and clear the cut off list. If candidates have a compartment in one subject, they can apply for admission but they cannot apply if they have a compartment in the subject in which they are seeking admission.
