American woman delivers baby girl conceived 25 years ago

Tina, who was born in 1991, was taken aback upon hearing that the child she was to bear was conceived only a year after her own birth.

An American woman has just had a baby who is just as old as her, in a manner of speaking. Tennessee couple Tina and Benjamin Gibson’s newborn daughter, Emma Wren, was actually conceived way back in 1992, only a year after her mother was born. It is just that Emma has spent most of her time since then as a frozen embryo.

Soon after conception, the embryo was frozen on October 14, 1992, according to the National Embryo Donation Center (NEDC) in Knoxville, Tennessee. Tina, who was born in 1991, was taken aback upon hearing that the child she was to bear was conceived only a year after her own birth.

Tina and her husband were even more surprised after the lab director told them that it could possibly be a world record.

According to reports, the Gibsons weren’t aware that the embryo was 25 years old until they were already pregnant with Emma, and had selected the embryo based on its genetic characteristics.

The NEDC adds that Emma’s delivery also marks the “longest-frozen embryo to successfully come to birth.” Before the Gibsons, a New York woman held the record after she birthed a baby boy from a 20-year-old frozen embryo.
