These 10 Bollywood celebs studied engineering before they turned to acting

From Fawad Khan to Taapsee Pannu, here are some of Bollywood's famous actors who actually share an engineering background.

Engineering has become the default option for a Bachelor’s degree that most parents push their children into. People start even preparing their children for the reputed IIT-JEEs and the AIEEEs as early as class 9. While in an ideal scenario, we should at least have a rough career path and have direction and loads of motivation, down here, we do all of that after getting the “B.Tech” stamp on our CVs. So, you will never be in a place where you wouldn’t find an engineer, EVER. Even some popular Bollywood celebrities have studied engineering courses in the past before finding work in the industry.

Here are some of Bollywood’s famous stars who actually share an engineering background:

1. Vicky Kaushal

Vicky Kaushal attained his engineering degree in electronics and telecommunications in 2009 from Mumbai’s Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology. The famous Masaan actor had always assumed he would continue to get a job in the field but seeing how monotonous that would be for him, Kaushal turned to acting.

2. Kriti Sanon

Delhi’s own Kriti Sanon has a degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the Jaypee Institute of Information Technology in Noida. After graduating, she started modelling and in 2014, she made her debut with Heropanti.

3. Sushant Singh Rajput

Sushant Singh Rajput, the actor who essayed the role of MS Dhoni, studied Mechanical Engineering at the Delhi College Of Engineering (now Delhi Technological University) after apparently securing 7th rank in the All India Engineering Entrance Exam (AIEEE). He dropped out of college after three years and went on to chase his dream of becoming an actor.

4. Fawad Khan

Before winning hearts all over with his popular role in Humsafar, Pakistani actor Fawad Khan was struggling to grasp the concepts of Computer Engineering at the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences (NUCES) in Lahore. Fawad has stated that he was a “terrible computer engineer” and “couldn’t make money out of coding” which is when he turned to acting.

5. R Madhavan

R Madhavan did not just play the role of an engineer in the 2009 film 3 Idiots. The actor actually has a degree in electronics engineering from the Rajaram College in Kolhapur.

6. Kartik Aaryan

Best known for his lengthy monologue from Pyaar Ka Punchnama, actor Kartik Aaryan also happens to be an engineer. While studying engineering in Mumbai, Kartik took an acting course to chase his dreams of becoming an actor.

7. Taapsee Pannu

Before making a major breakthrough with Pink, Taapsee Pannu worked as a software engineer. The actress studied Computer Science Engineering from New Delhi’s Guru Tegh Bahadur Institute of Technology but ditched her job to pursue a career in show-biz.

8. Sonu Sood

Famous for his roles in films like Kung Fu Yoga, Dabangg and Happy New Year, actor Sonu Sood actually graduated from Yeshwantrao Chavan College of Engineering in Nagpur with a degree in Electrical Engineering.

9. Kader Khan

Veteran actor Kader Khan has done a range of films throughout his long career in Bollywood. But before he stepped into acting, Khan had obtained a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the Institution of Engineers (India) and even taught the course at MH Saboo Siddik College of Engineering in Byculla for a few years.

10. Amol Parashar

Known for his role in The Viral Fever’s web series Tripling, Amol Parashar graduated from the famed Indian Institute of Technology Delhi with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He also starred in Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year along with Ranbir Kapoor in 2009.
