No threat to user data: WhatsApp to Delhi HC

Information shared by users is safe, assures WhatsApp

The Delhi High Court will take a call on the new privacy policy of the social messaging platform, WhatsApp on September 23, just two days before the update is proposed to roll out in India.

According to a report by the Times of India, the date of hearing was fixed after WhatsApp assured a division bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Sangita Dhingra Sehgal that no third party could access messages shared among its users due to its end-to-end encryption.

Earlier this month, the Delhi HC had asked WhatsApp and its parent company Facebook to respond to the allegations made in a public interest litigation (PIL) regarding its new privacy policy.

The PIL had alleged that there were loopholes in its new policy that could lead to a breach of security.
