For those of you who have been living under extreme web-isolation, Narcos is a wildly popular show on web-streaming website Netflix. The show, based on the life of Colombian drug lord pablo Escobar has a cult fan following that transcends geographical borders across the globe.
In their latest video, Mitros, All India Bakchod’s seemingly taken inspiration from the hard-hitting Spanish drama that has gripped the millennials and created a spoof video. ‘Starring’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the protagonist, the video has already the talk of the town.
Earlier this year, AIB had been embroiled in a controversy after sharing a meme of a PM Modi look-alike with a puppy dog Snapchat filter. They had to eventually take the post down after supporters of the PM sent a barrage of hate mail.
If you thought that would make them stay away from being critical of the current government, you thought wrong. The parody is a visual capsule from of clippings of Gau Rakshaks in action, to the Yogi Adityanath becoming Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, to PM Modi’s foreign visits, to the overnight implementation of demonetisation that rocked the country last year.
It is in short a ‘time-lapse’ of sorts that capture surgical strikes to student body strikes, with a neat mention of Arnab Goswami’s Republic TV. It neatly puts things in perspective without asking you to wedge out an opinion from the crores of Facebook statuses buried in your closet of offense.
And then the comments spread like wildfire once the pro-Right wingers and the cynics and everyone else came on board to judge the video for what it was worth. People on Facebook began to estimate the outcome of this video, some even going to the extent of assuming that AIB might get in legal trouble once more with the not-so-friendly Bharatiya Janata Party in power.
There were people who came right out to support AIB
To people asking more of this incredible new idea of Modi starring in a series like Narcos
To people calling it a death wish on AIB’s part
And finally, to that anticipatory call to the lawyers that AIB might be making soon
And the verdict is quite clear
