From winning the Blind Cricket World Cup to bagging 37 medals and creating history at the recently concluded World Dwarf Games. Indian sports is scaling new heights. This has also caught the attention of our Prime Minister, who has always been a big source of motivation for these sportsmen. This is India’s best performance at the Dwarf Games ever. It was Joby Matthews, who was the pick of the dwarf athletes for India, he finished with 6 medals to her name. But the big highlights were CV Ranjana from Bangalore and Devappa More, who won gold in 200 meters and 100 meters respectively.

It has to be one of the proudest moments in Indian sports, where even the specially abled are getting a name for the country.

Joby Matthew spoke to Hindustan times and said, “I had a wonderful experience. I participated in badminton doubles, badminton singles, shot put, javelin, discus throw, and power-lifting. We are very much proud to be Indian athletes.”

Manager of the team Shivananda Gunjal said, “This year was fantastic. They have done an excellent job. We want to give a gift to the country on Independence Day. Coming here, we have been given so much respect, we are very proud of that. We are happy to give 15 gold medals to the country on August 15.”

After bringing glory to the nation, we only hope and also appeal that these athletes should be treated as world champions and should get their due financially. The country has another opportunity to show their respect for these athletes. Only time will tell how it goes…
