Under-19 World Cup 2018: Anukul Roy’s fifer guides India to a 10-wicket victory over Papua New Guinea

A comprehensive win for India as Papua New Guinea succumb to the pressure created by Indian bowlers

There were no surprises in the second match of India’s Under-19 World Cup 2018 campaign. Prithvi Shaw-led side romped over a weak Papua New Guinea (PNG) side and managed to win the match by 10 wickets with 42 overs to spare. PNG batting lineup never looked like posting a big total as they were bundled out for a lowly score of 64 with 169 balls to go. Openers Prithvi Shaw and Manjot Kalra chased down the total with ease as the captain scored another half-century.

Left-arm spinner Anukul Sudhakar Roy picked up his five-wicket haul in the tournament. He tormented PNG batting lineup and did not let them sneak easy singles. Roy bowled two maidens in his spell of 6.5 overs. Only three PNG batsmen could score in double digits. Four of them got out without troubling the scorers.

Not just Roy, but Indian fast bowlers haunted PNG batsmen with their raw pace. Shivam Mavi picked up two wickets whereas Kamlesh Nagarkoti got one. Nagarkoti even bowled two maiden overs in his spell. Arshdeep Singh got one wicket to his name as well and that too of the PNG skipper Vagi Karaho.

Shaw came into bat with a mindset to increase their net run rate which might come in handy as the tournament progresses. He scored 57 runs from 39 balls which included 12 boundaries to finish the game off in the powerplay overs only. Kalra tried to rotate the strike and scored 9 runs from 9 balls.
