India managed to hold onto Germany in the dying minutes of the match to clinch their second consecutive bronze at the event. India beat Germany 2-1 in the bronze medal match.

After having lost 0-2 to Germany in the pool stages of the tournament, the Indians would be hoping to avenge the defeat. Germany, on the other hand, lost their semi-finals 3-0 to Australia, they went into the match against India, hoping for a consolation bronze. The score was 1-o at halftime after SV Sunil broke the deadlock in the 20th minute when he scored a field goal. Akashdeep Singh received the ball inside the circle and tried a reverse shot. Akash’s shot was saved by the German goalkeeper, but Sunil found the back of the net on the rebound.

Germany equalised in the 3rd quarter in the 36th minute. It was Mark Appel who scored the equaliser to bring the match back to level terms.

Harmanpreet Singh gave India the lead again in the last quarter with 6 minutes remaining. Singh scored off a penalty corner and that brought respite to the Indian camp, who are chasing a consecutive bronze medal in this tournament.
