CWG 2018: Cricketer Mitchell Starc’s Brother Brandon Starc Wins Gold In High-Jump

Brandon Starc was the only competitor to clear the bar at 2.32 metres at Gold Coast

Australian pace bowler Mitchell Starc’s younger brother Brandon Starc on April 11 won the gold medal for his country in high-jump at the ongoing Commonwealth Games.

Interestingly, it was Australia’s first high-jump gold medal since 1994.

During the event, Starc was the only competitor to clear the bar at 2.32 metres at Gold Coast’s Carrara Stadium. He surpassed his previous best which was 2.31m, which he set at the 2015 world championships.

The Australian pacer took to Twitter to share a video of his brother’s winning jump. He captioned the video as:

Earlier Starc, who was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise for Rs 9.4 crore in this year’s players’ auction, was ruled out due to the injury he sustained during the fourth and the final Test between South Africa and Australia.

Following his injury, the pacer missed IPL for the third time in a row. In 2016, Starc was ruled out of the tournament due to a foot fracture. Last year, he left Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to focus on international cricket.
