Why Barcelona Fans Trolled Ballon d’Or Luka Modric After El Classico

That's a great way to market your jerseys, Barcelona!

Barcelona humbled Real Madrid in the El Classico clash to seal the Copa Del Rey final spot. A completely one-sided affair, the visitors scored three goals at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium. Even though Barcelona’s star forward, Lionel Messi, did not score a goal, he was tough to contain for the Real Madrid players.

After the win, Barcelona posted a tweet where Luka Modric can be seen pulling Messi’s shirt in order to stop him. The midfielder almost grabbed the Argentine forward which was clearly seen by the referee, as he awarded a free kick after the latter fell down.

Here’s the cheeky dig from one Spanish football club to another:

The ever-brewing battle between the fans of two clubs isn’t new, but these reactions to the tweet are too good to miss:

The Croatian midfielder was awarded the prestigious Ballon d’Or award in 2018, ending the duopoly of Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi. On the other hand, Messi finished fifth according to the rankings missing out on the award by a huge margin of 473 points between him and Modric.

The fans of both the clubs have always been passionate and posts like these tend to start a social media war between these keyboard warriors. Maybe Barcelona should have waited till the next game between the fierce rivals to be played tomorrow. If the tables turn, they will have a lot coming their way as well.
