When Imran Khan’s TIP to Sourav Ganguly during Greg Chappel saga helped ‘dada’ comeback!

Ganguly is currently the President of Cricket Association of Bengal and he has already brought a lot of reforms in the system

Sourav Ganguly has lately disclosed how former Pakistan skipper Imran Khan helped him get back into the Indian team when he was left out by then Indian coach Greg Chappel. It is a known fact that there was a rift between Chappel and Ganguly. Ganguly is also credited with getting Greg Chappel on-board. But soon after Chappel became the Indian coach, things went from bad to worse. Sourav Ganguly was axed from the squad and new combinations were being tried. But success eluded Greg Chappel, who finally had to leave as the coach of the Indian cricket team.

“I was so angry that I started running at Eden Gardens. It was about 2006. I kept running at Eden Gardens. I kept running, running and running till I finished 21 laps. The last six or seven were just out of anger,” said Sourav at the India Today Conclave 2017.

“It (Being dropped from the team) was tough but it made me a better person. I once met Imran Khan in Lahore during that period. He was actually following Indian cricket. We have a fantastic relationship, Imran and myself. He said something to me which I always remember in life. When you fly high and see dark clouds, you find a way to fly higher. I remembered those words during that (tough) period,” said Ganguly.

Ganguly is currently the President of Cricket Association of Bengal and he has already brought a lot of reforms in the system. Eden Gardens became the first Indian ground to host a pink ball Test match and also a day/night game.
