Saeed Ajmal still feels he was denied the wicket of Sachin Tendulkar in World Cup 2011!

Saeed Ajmal retired at the age of 40 in front of his homecrowd and urged Pakistan cricket fans to come out and watch domestic matches

Saeed Ajmal retired from all forms of cricket on November 29 after a National T20 Cup match between Faisalabad and Lahore Whites. The former Pakistani bowler got banned for his bowling action by International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2014. As per reports, Ajmal’s arm bent almost 3 times the allowed angle, which is 15 degrees.

Post-retirement, Ajmal still hasn’t gotten over the instance when he was denied the wicket of India’s legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar in ICC World Cup 2011 semi-finals. Tendulkar was caught in front of the stumps in the 11th over of the innings by the spinner and was given out by the umpire Ian Gould. His decision, however, was reversed after Tendulkar opted for Decision Review System (DRS).

Tendulkar was batting on 23 at that time and went on to score a crucial knock of 85 runs in the semi-final, which turned out to be a match-winner in the end.

Ajmal told PTI how he was denied Tendulkar’s wicket in the semi-final of WC 2011.

I was totally convinced I had him in front of the stumps but how the umpires didn’t give him out I still can’t understand. I was 110% confident when the referral was made that the batsman was out.

Ajmal did not hold back his emotions while criticising ICC for terming his bowling action as illegal. He made a few serious allegations against the ICC.

I am retiring with a heavy heart because firstly I think the ICC’s protocol is too harsh and if all bowlers today playing international cricket are tested I am sure at least 90 percent will fail to clear this protocol.
