MS Dhoni creates a weird record during 4th ODI against WI which no player will ever want to break. Know here

MS Dhoni, after scoring 54 off 114 balls, has surpassed former Indian opener Sadagoppan Ramesh and former Indian Sourav Ganguly in terms of scoring fifty maximum number of balls in an ODI innings

Virat Kohli & Co. chased for the first time in the ongoing series against West Indies and they lost the game by an edge. They fell 11 runs shorts to take the game home and finally, the Windies could make the series 2-1. The Caribbean hosts set an easy target of 190 runs for the Indian team, however, the Indian batsmen failed to chase the same. Mahendra Singh Dhoni turned out to be the second highest scorer of the Indian team after Ajinkya Rahane (60 off 91 balls) but with that, he also set a weird world record. Though he scored a half-century and ended up scoring 54 runs but it came off 114 balls. And with these stats, he scored the slowest fifty in last 16 years and the second slowest overall by an Indian in ODI history.

MS Dhoni has surpassed former Indian opener Sadagoppan Ramesh who earlier had the record of scoring fifty maximum number of balls (117) for India against Kenya in the year 1999 followed by former India captain Sourav Ganguly is third on the list for his 105-ball fifty against Sri Lanka in 2005.

List of Indians players to score slowest Fifty in ODIs

Player Name     Played Against            No of Balls Played to Score a Fifty       Year
MS Dhoni       West Indies                                       114       2017
        Sadagopan Ramesh           Kenya                                       117       1999
Sourav Ganguly        Sri Lanka                                       105       2005

Dhoni took the game till the 49th over where 16 runs were needed off the last 12 balls. In the 7th last ball, Dhoni went for a biggie and gave away his wicket to Kesrick Williams. He might have taken a single but probably he would have followed his instincts and later, was found caught in the long-on ending his innings.

Though he couldn’t finish the game in the way he wanted but he created one of the weird cricketing records which is not so hard to break but surely, no player would like to break or surpass this one.
