Steven Smith to miss India vs Australia T20I series due to shoulder injury, Marcus Stoinis named as replacement

It will be a big blow for Australia as their captain will not be available for the three-match T20I series starting October 7

Troubles seem to be never-ending for the Australian team. After a disappointing loss in the five-match ODI series, Australian skipper Steven Smith will be not be playing the three-match T20I series due to the shoulder injury. Smith suffered an injury during a practice session where he was diving towards the ball. Smith will be unavailable for the remainder of the series. He will be replaced by Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis. With Smith gone, Australian opener David Warner will be leading the Australian side.

According to Cricket Australia (CA) Press Release, Bupa Support Team Doctor Richard Saw said, “ Smith landed awkwardly on his right shoulder whilst diving in the field during the fifth ODI against India last Sunday. Following the match, he complained of shoulder soreness, which has not settled and is restricting his ability to bat and throw. Subsequently, he has had an MRI scan which excluded serious injury, but we believe the best course of action is for him to not continue to aggravate his shoulder and allow it to recover. He will have further investigation upon his return to Australia but we remain confident he will be available for the start of Sheffield Shield season.”

Marcus Stoinis rewarded for his form in ODI series

Stoinis gets a golden chance to prove his mettle once again in the T20I series. Stoinis has the ability to hit the ball well. He can be lethal in T20 format. He has pulled off a few brilliant performances in Indian Premier League (IPL) while playing for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). He will bring more balance to the Australian side. He has been in decent form in the ODI series.

Golden opportunity for David Warner

Warner has been leading the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) side for a couple of years now. He led them to the title win in 2016. Warner has proved himself as an effective leader. He is in good form and will look to lead from the front.
