ICC Women’s World Cup 2017: Sanjiv Goenka announces scholarship for Indian players, BCCI to give Rs 50 Lakh each

Overwhelmed by the success of Indian women's cricket team in the ICC Women's World Cup 2017, Sanjiv Goenka has announced a special scholarship.

Overwhelmed by the success of Indian women’s cricket team in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017, Atletico De Kolkata principal owner Sanjiv Goenka today announced a special scholarship.

Indian women’s team is set to play England in the finals of the ICC World Cup and the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group said they will start a scholarship for sportswomen in India where a chosen five will be given Rs 5 lakh each.

“For this year, our jury will pick five sportswomen who will be given Rs 5 lakh each,” said Goenka, according to a PTI report.

“Indian women cricket has shown what we are capable of. But what they lack is training, facilities, and resources,” he added, conveying best wishes for Indian women’s team in today’s final against England.

Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Criket in India (BCCI) announced a cash of Rs 50 lakh for each member of the Indian women’s cricket team for their splendid performance in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017.

“I would like to congratulate the Indian Women’s Cricket Team for their exemplary show in the ICC Women’s World Cup. The team has shown tremendous character and the girls have raised the bar with each passing game under the able leadership of Mithali Raj,” said COA chief Vinod Rai in a statement, according to a News 18 report.

BCCI acting president CK Khanna echoed the sentiments on Rai and said:” The BCCI acknowledges the performance of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team that has qualified for the final of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017. The team has a good blend of young talent and experienced campaigners in Captain Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami.”

It is only the second time that India have entered the summit clash of the global event, having lost to Australia in the final of the 2005 edition.
