Gautam Gambhir lashes out at people who refuse to stand for National Anthem in cinema halls

Gautam Gambhir is currently playing in the Ranji Trophy season 2017-18 for Delhi and scored a century against Assam in the first match

Gautam Gambhir is known for being patriotic and often expresses his love for the nation. Gambhir does not mince words while opposing criticism against the nation or Indian Army. Recently, Supreme Court sought the Centre’s stance on standing while the national anthem played in the cinema halls. Attorney General KK Venugopal said that national anthem should be seen as a unifying force in a country as diverse as India. Gambhir took to his Twitter handle to express his opinion on the matter. The Delhi opener lashed out at people who refused to stand during the 52-second national anthem. The 36-year-old did not hold back as he questioned those who willed to wait outside a club or a restaurant but opposed standing for the national anthem.

Here’s what he tweeted –

Standin n waitin outsid a club:20 mins.Standin n waitin outsid favourite restaurant 30 mins.Standin for national anthem: 52 secs. Tough?

Gambhir has not only supports the Indian Army but recently started a campaign which aimed at respecting the soldiers. He urged people to salute soldiers whenever they see one.

Gambhir is currently playing for Delhi in Ranji Trophy season 2017-18. He recently stepped down from captaincy and paved the way for Ishant Sharma to captain the side. Though he scored 137 against Assam, he got out early against Railways scoring just 2 runs. He is raring to make a comeback to international cricket. The last time he was picked in the national side was in 2016 against New Zealand for a Test series. However, he suffered an injury and was ruled out of the series.

His Indian Premier League (IPL) side Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) reached the playoffs of IPL 2017. Gambhir is expected to be retained as the captain of the KKR in the coming seasons where most of the players are expected to get shuffled.
