Duck Tales: Ashton Turner’s New T20 Record Is The Stuff Of Nightmares

Well, that's a record Ashton Turner would never brag about

Ashton Turner is going through a rough patch, which to be fair, everyone goes through. But Turner’s bad streak has turned out to be the stuff of a batsman’s nightmares. In his debut Indian Premier League (IPL) season for Rajasthan Royals, Turner hasn’t managed a single run. The Australian has five consecutive ducks in T20 cricket to his name and 3 consecutive ducks in IPL.

The 26-year-old now holds the record for most consecutive ducks in T20 cricket and most consecutive golden ducks in IPL. The duck-streak started in Big Bash League (BBL) playing for Perth Scorchers against Adelaide Strikers earlier this year. It was followed by a duck in T20I against India.

The Aussie was picked up by RR in IPL 2019 auction for his base price of Rs 50 lakh. The franchise put their faith in the batsman seeing his decent T20 career.

He got the attention of Indian fans when he snatched a win for Australia from the jaws of defeat against India in an ODI before IPL. He scored 84 not out at a strike rate of 195.34 chasing down a mighty total of 359.

But everything seems to be going downhill for the Aussie now as he has come nowhere near to his reputation with three ducks for a struggling RR who are in desperate need of a finisher this season. First, he was not included in Australia’s ODI squad for World Cup 2019 and now the string of ducks.

Here’s how Twitter roasted the unlucky batsman after the strange record:

This is brutal

Ashton Turner are you the great grandson of Aryabhata?
If so, you are making your Great grandfather proud

Still a mystery

Ashton Turner has started his IPL with three golden ducks. Still getting selected over Livingstone…

Now that’s creative

You gotta feel sad for him

Just feel for Ashton Turner. Guy had played one of the best innings, finishing a game. Sat on the bench throughout the ODI series vs Pakistan. Not selected for the WC. Now, 3 golden ducks on the trot. This too shall pass, @Ashtonturner_70

The answer is few dropped catches

This isn’t funny anymore. Gambhir once made four ducks in a row but they weren’t all first ballers. Got to feel sorry for Ashton Turner. #RR

It is unlikely that the 26-year-old will get a go-ahead in the playing XI when RR play Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 25. However, he might get a chance to redeem himself when international players including Steven Smith, Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes join their respective World Cup squads.
