Are You Kidding Me? Australian Bowler Riley Meredith Leaks 17 Runs Off Just One Ball

From just one run off first three balls to bowling a 23-run over, Riley Meredith had a nightmare against Melbourne Renegades

Big Bash League (BBL) 2018-19 is a gift that keeps on giving. One of the best T20 leagues in the world, BBL has witnessed too many bizarre moments this season, whether it is the ball hitting the roof or bat flip replacing the age-old coin toss. In the clash between Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Renegades yesterday, fast bowler Riley Meredith gave as many as 17 runs off just one ball.

Meredith opened the bowling as Melbourne openers Marcus Harris and Aaron Finch came out to bat. For the first three balls, the fast bowler was spot on giving just one single to Harris. But the fourth ball of the over took forever to be bowled.

The 22-year-old overstepped by a mile. Finch was ready for the free hit but the pressure got the better of the bowler as he gave 5 wides. Next ball, again a free hit. Meredith bowled a no ball for height. The ball took an inside edge of Finch’s bat and went to the square leg boundary.

The pressure piled on the youngster as he had given 11 runs already. In order to correct his mistake , Meredith ended up overcompensating bowling another no ball, this time a front foot no ball. Finch was getting freebies, perfect start chasing a total of 184.

Meredith had bowled 4 illegal deliveries and given 16 runs. The next ball was a free hit again but Meredith calmed his nerves and bowled a legal delivery giving just 1 run off it. The fourth delivery costed Hobart 17 runs.

The first over went for 23 runs. Melbourne could not have asked for a better over to kickstart the runchase. However, they ended up losing the match by 16 runs as they lost a string of wickets after the powerplay overs. Meredith’s bowling figures at the end of the runchase read 43 runs off 3 overs picking up one wicket.
