Andrew Tye equals Amit Mishra’s 4-year-old record, takes 3rd hat-trick in T20 cricket

It was the second BBL hat-trick for Andrew Tye in a year. Former Aussie spinner Xavier Doherty was the first bowler to do so in BBL 2012-13

Australian speedster Andrew Tye entered the record books on December 23, after he claimed a hat-trick during the 5th game of the Big Bash League (BBL), between the Sydney Sixers and the Perth Scorchers in Sydney. This was not only Tye’s second hat-trick in BBL, but also his third hat-trick in T20 cricket in 2017. He has now equaled the record of Indian spinner Amit Mishra, who was the first bowler to reach this feat.

The Sydney Sixers batted first and posted a decent total of 132 runs on the board. They would have scored probably 150+ runs but a particularly great over by Tye came as a huge blow to the home team. The Scorchers pacer got the third hat-trick of this year in the 19th over, when the Sixers were playing at 131 for 7, and a healthy partnership was brewing up between Steve O’Keefe and Sean Abbott. After conceding a run on the first ball, Tye bundled up the opposition without giving a run anymore.

Over 18.2: Tye bowled a good length delivery which Abbott tried to play across the line. The ball took the top of his bat and went directly up in the air towards cover-point where Mitchell Johnson made no mistake and took an easy catch.

Over 18.3: A short ball from Tye to O’Keefe which he pulled towards the deep square leg. Jhye Richardson was the fielder in that region and grabbed the ball very easily.

Over 18.4: This time a length ball from Tye to Daniel Sams who tried to play across the line. He missed the shot while the ball hit his pads. Sams was given LBW out.
