This Year, Delhi Celebrated Durga Puja Without Polluting The Yamuna

For the first time in years, no Durga idols were immersed in the Yamuna river.

Yamuna ghats in Delhi ended up looking like a dump yard after Durga Puja every year. But this time, Delhi made a change to protect its only river from pollution. For the first time in 100 years, no durga idols were immersed in Yamuna. At several points in and around the city, makeshift ponds and pits were set up for the immersion of idols. The authorities also appointed security personnel to stop people from accessing the ghats near Yamuna. The move comes after the National Green Tribunal asked the govts of Delhi, UP & Haryana to curb the immersion of idols in rivers as they contain heavy metal pollutants.
