MEA spokesperson Vikas Swarup appointed as next envoy to Canada

Vikas Swarup garnered fame for his famous novel Q&A which was later adapted into a major Hollywood film Slumdog Millionaire

The Narendra Modi government has appointed eminent novelist and current spokesperson of Ministry of External Affairs Vikas Swarup as the new High commissioner to Canada.

Swarup, a 1986 Indian Foreign Service batch officer, garnered fame for his famous novel Q&A which was later adapted into a major Hollywood film Slumdog Millionaire which went on to win eight Academy awards.

Swarup will be replacing Arun Kumar Sahu, who is currently working as the acting High Commissioner to Canada.

Swarup replaced Syed Akbaruddin as the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs of India in April 2015.
