Construction Workers In Agra Face Animal Lovers’ Wrath After Pouring Hot Tar Over A Dog

Conflicting reports emerge on whether the dog was dead or alive, but a complaint has been registered

A private construction company allegedly poured hot tar over a dog’s body while constructing a road in Agra’s Fatehabad road on Tuesday night. Irate animal lovers and activists rebuked the construction company and the workers for gross apathy towards the poor animal.

Construction workers are being blamed for their insensitivity as they claim to have conveniently missed the dog lying on the road because it was dark, however, Mirror Now reported that locals heard the dog howling in pain but his groans were ruthlessly ignored by the labourers.

Locals, who claim that the dog was alive when the hot tar was poured on it, spotted the animal and raised an alarm. However, the dog was partly buried under the bitumen. Conflicting reports emerge on whether the dog was dead or alive.

Social activist Naresh Paras told PTI, “A fresh layer of coal tar was being laid on the road from Phool Sayyed crossing towards the Circuit House and the Taj Mahal. A dog was sleeping on one side of the road. Instead of chasing the animal or removing it physically, burning coal tar was poured over it. Later, a road roller crushed the animal.”

Photos of the innocent animal half buried in the road have sparked outrage on social media.

On Wednesday, a crane was brought in to dig up the dog’s body. Paras said a case under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act was filed with the police.

Govind Parashar, a right-wing activist in Agra, who claimed to have witnessed the dog yelping in pain told ANI, “I felt really bad and I wanted to bury the dog, so we got the dog’s body dug out. I also wanted that road construction workers get a lesson so that they don’t do this again, so I filed a complaint against the construction company.”
