Congress may well make a comeback in the state of Punjab in the upcoming assembly polls in March, according to a pre-poll survey

According to India Today-Axis opinion poll, Congress is slated to win between 56 and 62 seats in the northern state, which has been ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiromani Akali Dali for the last 10 years.

The anti-incumbency against the BJP-SAD government could cause it dearly, with the ruling coalition just expected to win between 18 and 22 seats.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will make an impressive debut with the fledgling outfit predicted to win 36-41 seats, or a 29 per cent vote share.

Former Congress CM Amarinder Singh is the favorite to be the next chief minister, polling almost one-third of the vote, followed by Parkash Singh Badal who was favoured as CM by 22 per cent of respondents. Around 16 per cent of those polled wanted Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to be their chief minister.

Interestingly, 39 percent of those surveyed believed that the BJP should end its alliance with SAD.
