University campuses in India are witnessing turmoil.

After recent violence at JNU, tension has gripped Manipur University.

Last week, 89 students and six teachers were arrested by Manipur police in a midnight raid. Police also lobbed teargas on the protesting students. The student agitation began four months ago against the varsity’s VC Adiya Prasad Pandey for his alleged failure in performing his administrative role and financial irregularities.

While Pandey has been suspended, the students are demanding his resignation. Even the appointment of an acting VC hasn’t pacified the protesting students.

Till now, the protests have triggered the exit of six deans, the university PRO and 29 out of 31 head of departments.

Students are also demanding removal of an Assam Rifles camp on the campus. Following last week’s protests, the campus has been turned into a fortress and mobile internet has been suspended.

The situation is no good in Uttar Pradesh’s Banaras Hindu University.

Banaras Hindu University is back in news after a student event on campus was disrupted allegedly by RSS’s student-wing ABVP.

The event was being held to commemorate the first anniversary of massive student protests against sexual harassment and discriminatory hostel rules. Students alleged that they were thrashed & abused and the varsity administration didn’t intervene.

An FIR has been filed against 11 ABVP-affiliated students from the university.
