What! Goa police bans drinking on beaches

"A lot of people are facing inconvenience due to this nuisance of drinking in the open", said Superintendent of Police, Karthik Kashyap

In a bad news for booze lovers, those found drinking in public places in Goa will now be put behind the bars. The move has come after people complained of getting hurt by the broken glasses while taking a walk on the beaches. The North Goa police on Wednesday put a ban on drinking in public places especially on beaches in Goa. Those found breaking the order will be booked under the section 34 of the Indian police act.

Superintendent of Police, Karthik Kashyap told reporters, “We received a lot of complaints, both from tourists as well as locals, about people cutting themselves on broken liquor bottles while walking on the beaches as well as swimming in the sea. Therefore we have given instructions to the police to crack down severely on drinking of alcohol on beaches”.

“A lot of people are facing inconvenience due to this nuisance of drinking in the open”, he added. Calangute, Baga, Candolim, Anjuna, Morjim, Arambol are some of the famous beaches of North Goa.

This diktat by the police has come days after Chief Minister of Goa, Manohar Parrikar has ordered a ban on parties after 10 pm. “There is a legal ban on holding parties after 10 PM and this has been upheld by the state government. There is no controversy about it”, said Parrikar.

CM had said that the police in Goa has been ordered to crack the whip on the late night parties, prostitution and illegal gambling activities in the state.
