Watch: Man in Kashmir ‘tied’ to Army jeep as human shield against stone pelting, Omar demands probe

Reacting to the allegations, Army said that contents of the video are being verified and investigated

A new video from Kashmir is doing the rounds where a youth is seen allegedly tied to an army jeep as a human shield against stone pelting. The video that has gone viral on social media has reportedly been shot in Beerwah area of Budgam district where miscreants disrupted voting during Sunday’s bypoll to Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency by pelting stones.

The video was also shared by former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah who condemned the video and termed it as “shocking”.

“This young man was TIED to the front of an army jeep to make sure no stones were thrown at the jeep? This is just so shocking!” Omar wrote on Twitter.

Recalling the video which surfaced a few days back in which a CRPF personnel was seen being beaten up, he wondered why the video of this man being allegedly tied on the jeep is not generating outrage. “I understand the outrage the CRPF video generated. I’m also outraged that the video of the youth on the jeep won’t generate the same anger. Let’s see channels going ballistic and having discussions with outraged panelists now. Probably not since ‘Kashmir is ours’ hell with Kashmiris,” the former chief minister said.

“A warning can be heard saying stone pelters will meet this fate. This requires an urgent inquiry and follow up NOW!” he added. The former J&K CM has demanded an inquiry into the incident. Omar represents Beerwah seat in the state assembly.

Reacting to the allegations, the Army said that contents of the video are being verified and investigated.
