Watch: Following UP CM Yogi Adityanath’s directive, anti-Romeo squad begins crackdown on eve-teasers

Currently, anti-Romeo squads are being set up in the 11 districts and Inspector General (IG) of Lucknow is keeping a close watch on them. Also, later these squads will be present in every district of the state

In a bid to fulfill poll promise, the newly appointed Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath has ordered the formation of the anti-Romeo squad in the state to keep a tab on eve-teasers.

Currently, anti-Romeo squads are being set up in the 11 districts and inspector general (IG) of Lucknow is keeping a close watch on them. Also, later these squads will be present in every district of the state.

Reacting to the development, UP Director General of Police (DGP), Javeed Ahmed said, “Safety of ladies is the sole intent of the anti- Romeo squads and this should not be taken as moral policing. Through this squad, we are not trying to harass people but we are trying to take action against those who are harassing others.”

During the campaigning for assembly elections in UP, Prime Minister Narendra Modi kept focusing on women safety and security in the state and promised that if BJP comes to power strict actions will be taken against eve-teasers.
