Toy train derails in Darjeeling’s Kurseong, several injured

The injured have been rushed to the nearby hospital. Further investigations are on.

In a shocking incident, at least five people, including the motorman, were left injured after a toy train in which they were travelling in derailed near Kurseong in West Bengal on Tuesday, officials said.

According to the reports, the incident happened between the Mahanadi and Dayabari station.

“Two coaches and the engine of the Toy Train, a part of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railways, derailed near Kurseong in West Bengal on Tuesday afternoon,” media reports said.

Darjeeling Superintendent of Police, Amit Javalgi said, “We have received the information and are looking into it.”

The injured have been rushed to the nearby hospital. Further investigations are on.

Earlier in 2015, two British nationals, both women, were killed and 13 others injured when three coaches of the chartered Kalka-Shimla toy train carrying a group of tourists from Britain derailed near Parwanoo.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 12.55 pm, 10 minutes after the train left the Kalka railway station. According to reports, 37 British nationals, in the age group of 40-80 years, were travelling in the special chartered train.
