Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel faced severe backlash after he allegedly called India a “poor” country and said that he is not too keen on expanding its business in the country. The comment has had adverse effects on the ratings of the otherwise popular app as the ratings dropped to a single star on the App store.
The revelation was made by Anthony Pompliano, a former employee who was fired by Snapchat. Pompliano said that Spiegel made this statement in a meeting in 2015. “This app is only for rich people,” Spiegel said, as told by Pompliano. “I don’t want to expand into poor countries like India and Spain.” Following which, people on social media urged fellow social media user to boycott the app by uninstalling it.
However, things seem to have taken a different turn as what it looks like some of the users are confusing Snapchat with Snapdeal and are giving negative ratings to the Snapdeal App at the Google Playstore. Basically, Snapdeal is paying the price for having “snap” in their name. People are going out and about asking people to uninstall Snapdeal app thinking that it was the Snapdeal’s CEO who said that “India was too poor”.

A social media user said, “Heard people are down rating even snapdeal app too just because they have “snap” in their name.”
“I am so patriotic that I even Uninstalled snapdeal”, said another user.
