This Police Station Converts Into A School Thanks To A 21-Year-Old

It all started around one-year back when Bohat started teaching these kids for free in a park in Rohini.

This police station in Delhi’s Rohini may look like any other, but every morning, it transforms into a school for the underprivileged kids.

Overseen by the station house officer inspector Jagminder Singh, and tutor Sandeep Bohat, around 40 children from nearby slum attend this unusual classroom. The police station-turned-classroom has books for each student, a whiteboard and furniture waiting for them, as reported by The Times of India.

A year ago, Bohat started teaching kids for free in a park in Rohini and Singh offered him space inside the station’s compound to continue teaching. Parents who had initially been skeptical and apprehensive about sending kids to Bohat’s classes in the park due to safety reasons are now assured of their well being.

Speaking to TOI, Bohat said that many parents offer him money as fees but he refuses it. Further saying, “I think of my fees being paid in full the day my work enables these kids to help others in need.” Apart from conducting these classes, Bohat has also helped get two toilets made for slum women in recent times. Every day, Bohat sets aside Rs 10 as a contribution towards building more toilets for girls.

A similar school is also functioning in Dehradun’s Prem Nagar police station where every day at 9.30 am, underprivileged kids between four and 12 years are brought in from the Nanda ki Chowki slum area to study.
