This Muslim-dominated village in UP will impose fine of Rs 2.5 lakh on cow killers

'In case a person is not able to pay the fine, the money will be recovered from his property', said former head of village

Supporting Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath campaign to stop cow slaughter, the panchayat of Mathura’s Madora village, which is a Muslim majority area on Tuesday announced that a fine of Rs 2.5 lakh will be imposed on those who found indulging in cow slaughter.

Former gram pradhan (village head) Mohd. Gaffar who announced the decision said that if they if find bovine killers in the village they will hand them to police, “We will also socially boycott them. In case a person is not able to pay the fine, the money will be recovered from his property”, he added.

Also, those villagers who will give information on cow slaughter will be rewarded with Rs 51,000. Gaffar added, “We, also respect the cow and will not allow its killing”.

Other than putting a ban on cow slaughter, the panchayat also announced that girls won’t be allowed to use mobile phones outside their houses and those who will not abide by the diktat will have to pay a fine of Rs 2,100. Gaffar said, “We are not stopping them from using mobile phones. They can do so in their houses, but not outside.” He said that use of mobile phones leads to “encouraged elopement”.

After coming to power, CM Yogi Adityanath instructed officials to come up with a plan to ban slaughter houses across the state. The announcement was part of BJP’s manifesto. He also ordered a ban on smuggling of cows. However, it was not specified the type of slaughter houses which will be shut.
