Surat sets world record for the largest sweeping exercise ever undertaken

More than 2,000 locals participated in what became the largest sweeping exercise in the world

Over two thousand residents participated in a record-breaking sweeping exercise in Surat on Wednesday, making a new world record. According to news agency ANI, 2014 locals participated in the event as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flagship, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, which is now a Guinness World Record.

This is not the first time in recent months that people of the western Indian city are in news for doing something extraordinary. In December 2016, a local beautician grabbed national attention for giving a haircut to 571 people on the trot for 24 hours. Sheetal Shah’s hair-cutting exercise was the longest yet undertaken by any hairdresser ever, and became an international record.
