Soon, you will have to pay for parking your car even outside your home. According to new rules that are being formulated, the vehicles in residential colonies can be parked in notified areas for a certain fee. Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal recently reviewed the Delhi Maintenance and Management of Parking Rules 2017. According to reports, Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot, civic bodies officials, transport department officials and senior functionaries of the Delhi traffic police were present in the meeting.
The rates for parking vehicles on the demarcated areas on public roads will be fixed after proper consultation with the respective Resident Welfare Association (RWA) bodies. For example, if you have stilt parking at your home but you still park on the street, you will have to pay double the normal rate. A base parking fee panel headed by the transport commissioner has been assigned the task of deciding the base parking fees in various areas of the national capital. According to the norms, it has been decided that the fee to park a vehicle on the street for the first hour will be twice the price of off-street parking.

To discourage on-street parking for long durations, the price will increase every hour and will be thrice the fee of off-street parking. The Chief Secretary will head a monitoring committee to review the execution and compliance of the new rules. The civic agencies have been entrusted the task of chalking out area specific integrated parking plans according to the provisions of Delhi Master Plan 2021.
The civic bodies will identify the locations for granting permissions to park overnight and commercial vehicles, which can be parked only after paying a certain fee. The same provisions apply for e-rickshaws and other electric vehicles during night hours.
