Shurhozelie Liezietsu sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Nagaland

T.R. Zeliang, the former CM of the state said that under the guidance of Liezietsu, Nagaland will be largely benefited as he is quite an experienced leader.

Shurhozelie Liezietsu was on February 22 sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Nagaland by Governor P B Acharya, therefore ending the political turmoil that the state was facing for some time. For past few days, tribal bodies in the state were protesting over the reservation given to women in the local body elections.

81 year old Shurhozelie Liezietsu is the president of Nagaland People’s Front (NPF) and is in politics for more than 40 years. He started his career in the year 1969 as a member of Nagaland legislative assembly. Previously, he held the post of Minister of Higher Education.

T.R. Zeliang, the former CM of the state while reacting to the new development said that under the guidance of Liezietsu, the state will be largely benefited as he is quite an experienced leader.

Meanwhile, newly inducted Chief Minister Liezietsu said, “for past few weeks our economy has been badly affected and a lot of damage has been done. But I believe good sense will prevail and we will work together in order to achieve our goal”.

On February 15, majority of the legislators chose Shurhozelie as the new party leader, after which the Governor P B Acharya invited him to form the government in the state.

Whereas, as soon as Zeliang stepped down as the Chief Minister of the state, Nagaland Tribes Action Committee (NTAC) cancelled its statewide bandh which was going on for many days.
