Soul of the Kargil martyr must be weeping: Kiren Rijiju on ‘misguided’ Gurmehar Kaur

The reaction from Kiren Rijiju comes a day after he said that while everyone has the freedom of speech no one can say anything against the country

Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday vehemently defended his stand on Gurmehar Kaur’s opposition saying that her father’s soul must be weeping over the statements she has made. Kaur had posted a video last year which said: “Pakistan didn’t kill my father, war did” to appeal for peace between India and Pakistan.

“She is a martyr’s daughter. His soul must be weeping that his daughter is being misguided by those who celebrate on the bodies of martyrs,” Rijiju said.

The reaction from Rijiju comes a day after he said that while everyone has the freedom of speech and expression but no one can say anything against the country. “Everyone has freedom of speech and expression. Do whatever you want but don’t say anything against the country,” Rijiju had said.

The Union Minister said, “Gurmehar Kaur is a young girl, creating controversy over her is not right. It’s about Leftists who celebrate when our jawans die.”

Rijiju further added, “During the war between India & China Leftist supported China. They are misleading the youth and it is not right.”

Rijiju was also slammed by Gurmehar Kaur’s grandfather for his remarks. Lashing out at Rijiju’s comments, Gurmehar’s grandfather said, “I am saddened.”
