Rani Padmavati shown in bad light in the movie as she was Hindu, says BJP leader

This comes days after few members of the Karni Sena had attacked Sanjay Leela Bhansali on the sets of Padmavati in Jaipur.

Amid the uproar over Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming movie, Padmavati, BJP leader Giriraj Singh has reportedly claimed that the queen Padmavati was being shown in the wrong light only because she was a Hindu. He further asserted that the makers of the film did not have the courage to make a movie on the central figure of Islam, Prophet Mohammad.

Stating that those destroying the history should face severe punishment, the BJP leader said that it was unfortunate that people who consider Mughal emperor, Aurangzeb and Tipu Sultan as their icons, were “playing” with the country’s history and they would not have done that if Padmavati was not a Hindu.

“Whoever has played the culture and the history of our country should know that Padmavati had sacrificed her life and did not kneel before the Mughal emperors. These people should be punished,” Indian Express quoted the Minister as saying.

It was only yesterday that the members of the Karni Sena who vandalised the sets of Padmavati and assaulted Sanjay Leela Bhansali demanded that the film title should be changed. However, after reaching a consensus, the group asserted that they do not have a problem with the title of the film. Shobha Pant, the CEO of Bhansali productions, who also attended the press conference affirmed that opposed to what the right wing party may believe, the film did not distort any facts.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali, on January 28 cancelled his shoot in Jaipur and the crew members returned back to Mumbai. Lokendra Singh Kalvi, the Founder of Rajput Karni Sena, the group that attacked filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and vandalised the set of Padmavati in Jaipur had stuck to his stand saying that the things that are not present in the history cannot be shown. He even put forth demands stating that they would not tolerate any intimate scenes in the movie while threatening the filmmaker to stop the film just like they stopped Joddha-Akbar.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus ran into huge trouble when members of Karni Sena protested on the sets of Padmavati in Jaigarh Fort, Jaipur. SLB was assaulted and slapped on the sets by few members of the group. To control the situation, his bodyguard is reported to have fired in air. The group is said to have problems with the way Rani Padmini of Chittor is being portrayed in the film.
