Pune Municipal Elections (PMC) 2017: Polling Date, Schedule, PMC Election Results, Candidate List & Political Parties

On February 21, the people in Pune will exercise their franchise in the civic polls to the Pune Municipality Corporation (PMC). PMC is one of the oldest Municipality Corporations in the country which was formed in 1950. and holds a total number 41 wards.

Around 1090 candidates have filed their nominations for the upcoming civic body pollsx to be held in 162 constituencies and the fight is considered to be strong between Bharatiya Janata Party, NCP and Shiv Sena. Parties like Congress and NCP have allied to fight for over 100 seats while over 62 seats, candidates from both the parties will contest against each other.

The party top brass has shifted their focus on the civic polls and other leaders are lined up to make their presence felt in the city ahead of the civic polls. On the other hand, Chief Minister of the state, Devendra Fadnavis, has even come forward and taken the lead.

While addressing a rally in Pune’s Baner area, CM Fadnavis termed the rival NCP as a “Confused” party and asserted that BJP will defeat NCP by a huge margin in the upcoming PMC polls in Pune and neighbouring Pimpri Chinchwad.

“We will wash them off in Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and Pune. Thus, there is no need to think about them as their corruption is hidden anymore,” said CM Devendra Fadnavis.

He also stressed on the past situation of the city and mentioned that due to lack of proper management, Pune was facing issues related to water, traffic, pollution and garbage.

To maintain the situation of the law and order, an application has been launched by the Election Commission which will help the people to lodge their complaint, if any, against law-violation during elections. It is being expected that the local transportation might trouble the residents. During the polling, on February 21 and 22, people may face a crisis of taxis in the city.

The counting of the polls is scheduled to be held on February 23 and the results are likely to be declared on the same day.
