Delhi LG rejects AAP govt’s proposal for home delivery of services, says Manish Sisodia

Manish Sisodia called LG's move a huge setback to government's efforts for corruption free governance

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal rejected the Delhi government’s proposal for ‘doorstep’ delivery of basic public services — from birth certificates to social welfare schemes, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said on Tuesday.

In a series of tweets, Sisodia called LG’s move a huge setback to government’s efforts for corruption free governance, adding that he took the decision without knowing field reality.

LG rejects proposal of doorstep delivery of 40 govt services like caste-birth-address certificates, licences, social welfare schemes, pensions, registrations..etc

LG sends it back for reconsideration. LG says digitalization of services enough. No need for doorstep delivery. 1/N

He further questioned whether the Lieutenant Governor should “have the power” to express difference of opinion with the elected government on such ‘critical matters..’

Should LG have power to express difference of opinion with elected govt on such critical matters of public interest n be able to scuttle such measures? Public hugely suffering because of that… 4/4

Last month, Delhi government had announced that it would soon roll out a scheme to enable citizens to get 40 public services, like a ration card and driving license, delivered at their doorsteps.

The latest move by LG could be another flashpoint in the bitter relation between the Arvind Kejriwal-led government and Narendra Modi led Central government.

Titled “Doorstep delivery of public services through mobile CSC”, the scheme’s objective was to help Delhites forego the long queues at government offices.

Manish Sisodia had described the move as a first in the country adding that the government would hire a private agency to implement the scheme. The decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Delhi chief minister took to Twitter and described the move as historic. He said it would cut down the scope for ‘middlemen or speed money’.

This is historic. First of its kinds in the country. It cud become possible only becoz people voted honest govt. Now no more middlemen, no speed money. Congrats Delhi https://t.co/QnyJ0G8I6w
