Beginning of the end has arrived: Manmohan Singh attacks PM Modi over demonetisation

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh did not refrain from attacking PM Modi saying that demonetisation was a massive disaster.

Senior Congress leader Manmohan Singh hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi today saying that with PM Modi claiming a transformation of economy, people now know that the beginning of the end has come.

Continuing his attack over the government’s decision to demonetise the Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes, the former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asserted that the demonetisation has hurt the nation very badly, while adding that things have now gone from bad to worse.

Terming it to be a massive “disaster”, Manmohan Singh, who has also been an Indian economist noted that the GDP of the country has gone down to 6.3%.

Meanwhile, former Finance Minister P Chidambaram reiterated Mr Singh’s statements and said that except for our Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, no one has claimed that the GDP has not been hit.

He further claimed that the Modi government has been unsuccessful in delivering all the objectives and had only caused never ending problems to people across the country. He even affirmed that the reasons given by the government to undertake the demonetisation move still exist. The Prime Minister had said that the purpose of the note ban was to fight the black money menace and corruption.

He went on to claim that the Prime Minister did not take suggestions from any ministers before announcing demonetisation in November. “According to the records we have been able to access so far, there is no record of the Cabinet meeting. Ministers were kept prisoners till PM announced the demonetisation decision,” he said.

Both the economists were speaking at Jan Vedna Sammelan. The event was attended by a number of other Congress party workers, including the Congress Vice President, Rahul Gandhi. However, Congress President Sonia Gandhi gave the event a miss for unknown reasons.
