People supporting Gurmehar Kaur are pro-Pakistan, should be thrown out: BJP leader Anil Vij

Haryana Minister Anil Vij recently made a controversial remark against Gurmehar Kaur stating that people supporting were pro-Pakistan.

Another BJP leader to join the list of opposing the daughter of Kargil martyr’s daughter, Gurmehar Kaur, is BJP leader from Haryana Anil Vij. Anil Vij has come forward to claim that those who are supporting Gurmehar Kaur were pro-Pakistan and should be immediately thrown out of the country.

Amid of the on-going massive stir made by Delhi University (DU) student Gurmehar Kaur, a BJP MP Pratap Simha from Karnataka also made a controversial remark and compared Gurmehar with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. In a picture posted by the leader, Gurmehar is addressed as a soldier’s daughter and is compared with Dawood, who is addressed as the son of a policeman.

Junior home minister from Arunachal Pradesh, Kiren Rijiju had even invited criticism from several quarters after we went on to question “who was polluting” Gurmehar’s mind. However, he later took a back flip and stated that everyone had the right to express their opinion and creating controversy around her was not right.

A number of people including cricketer Virender Sehwag and actor Randeep Hooda also drew flak for “mocking” Gurmehar’s stand on the issue.

Gurmehar Kaur who found herself at the receiving end after she spoke against the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), withdrew from the Save DU campaign and affirmed that she will not participate in the march organised by the Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University. Gurmehar on February 28 asserted that she had been through a lot and requested people to leave her alone.

Gurmehar Kaur, the Delhi university student who shot to fame over her facebook post against ABVP, filed a complaint at Delhi commission of Woman for receiving rape threats. Kaur, who is the daughter of Kargil martyr Captain Mandeep Singh, has said that she has received a barrage of threatening messages online.

Alluding to ABVP’s involvement in violence at Ramjas college over invitation to Umar Khaled for an event, Kaur changed her Facebook profile picture holding a placard which reads, “I am a student from Delhi University. I am not afraid of ABVP. I am not alone. Every student of India is with me. #StudentsAgainstABVP”. The campaign gathered huge support on social media. Students from different campuses replaced their profile pictures on Instagram and Facebook with the picture of Gurmehar holding a placard against ABVP.

Ramjas College had on Wednesday witnessed large-scale violence between members of AISA and ABVP workers.

The genesis of the clash was an invite to JNU students Umar Khalid and Shehla Rashid to address a seminar on Culture of Protests which was withdrawn by the college authorities following opposition by the RSS student wing.
