In a bid to generate good rankings from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), the students studying in the Miranda House of Delhi University have allegedly been asked to follow certain rules that some of the students have went on to label as “bizarre rules”.
The students have reportedly been strictly asked to not sleep on the college premises, hang undergarments in the hostel balcony and dress in a “civil manner”, Indian Express reported. The rules did not go down too well with the students and some of them even staged a protest by locking themselves in their rooms when the National Assessment and Accreditation Council visited the campus to conduct an inspection on March 27 and March 28.
The daily further reported that the administrators in the college have refuted such allegations while asserting that no rules were laid down before the students of the college. “The entire college is always engaged in the NAAC list. Everyone puts their best foot forward,” Principal Pratibha Jolly told the daily.
This comes just months after the Delhi University put up a notification asserting that the students were not allowed to click selfies, brush their hair or even “model” around the corridors anymore. The notice made it clear that the new norm was applicable to the students attending Sunday classes at School of Open Learning (SOL) at the Miranda House of the Delhi University.
The notice added that students who did not follow the rules would face strict actions that may include suspension from the college. The authorities said that they were laying down such rules as they believed that the students were wasting their doing by indulging in such things.
