#MuchWow: Nagaland Has Been Declared Best Horticulture State Of India

Nagaland has been awarded the Best Horticulture State at 11th Global Agricultural Leadership Awards, which recognizes how leadership impacts the lives of farmers.

The diverse climate and soil types in Nagaland enables cultivation of several plantation and horticulture crops including mushrooms, cassava, colocasia, medicinal & aromatic plants as well as spices like the famous ‘Naga King Chilli’.

The northeastern state’s horticulture department organizes various programs for sensitizing farmers as well as promotes health benefits of produces. It also provides planting material and logistics for irrigation. Nagaland recently conducted training on Dragon Fruit cultivation and also observed “Mahila Kisan Divas” to celebrate the role of Naga women in furthering agrarian economy.

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio stated on October 21:

A total of 20 awards have been announced. Other winners include Jharkhand, which has been conferred with Best Fisheries State, Bihar is Best Animal Husbandry State, Gujarat is Best Agriculture State and the govt of Haryana has been conferred with Program Leadership Award.
