Curfew clamped in parts of Imphal, mobile internet services banned following tensions

A curfew has been imposed from Lamlong Bazar to Yaingangpokpi in Imphal East following tensions in Manipur.

Mobile internet services have already been discontinued to control the rumour mongering that has been going on across social media. “In view of the recent tension prevailing in the state of Manipur, including the area falling under Imphal west district, it is feared that spreading rumors through mobile data by using social media like Facebook, WhatsApp, Hike, Messenger and Viber etc. In this regard, stoppage of mobile data service is required in order to diffuse the state situation,” said an order from District Magistrate Robert Singh Kshetrimayum’s office said.

Over 70 terrorists, believed to be from the NSCN-IM group, had attacked a police post in Manipur on Saturday leaving two policemen injured. Several militants had also attacked the Manipur Baptist Convention (MBC) Church in Imphal on Saturday, escalating the tensions in the state.
