Mob beats up man, sets his house on fire after allegedly spotting cow’s carcass in Jharkhand

Usman Ansari's house in Beria Hatiatand village was attacked by the mob and there was heavy stone-pelting in which 50 police personnel got injured

There has been a rise in the number of cases of cow vigilantism in the country and the recent one took place in Jharkhand.  In another case of cow vigilantism, a man was beaten up by a mob and his house was set on fire after a dead cow was recovered from his house in Beria Hatiatand village which comes under Giridih district and is about 200 km from Ranchi.

As per the police, Usman Ansari’s house was attacked by the mob after a carcass of a cow was found there and by the time police team reached the spot mob has already beaten up Ansari and a part of his house was set on fire.

According to The Indian Express, Jharkhand police spokesperson and ADG (Operations), R K Mullik said, “Our men and officials braved the crowd and immediately rescued Ansari and his family members. When the police tried to take him to the hospital, there was resistance from the crowd. There was heavy stone-pelting. We had to open fire in the air”.

“The mob was highly charged and nearly 50 of our men sustained injuries in the stone-pelting. The situation has been brought under control,” said Mullik.

One person identified as Krishna Pandit and 50 police personnel got injured in a brawl between villagers and police team. Currently, Ansari and Pandit are being treated at a hospital in Dhanbad and are reportedly out of danger.

Recently, 16-year-old Junaid Khan, was stabbed to death by a mob on Delhi-Mathura passenger train between Ballabgarh and Mathura stations who accused him and his three companions of carrying beef in their bags. The incident took place on June 22 in which Junaid’s two brothers Hasim (21) and Sakir (23) also got injured and were taken to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
