The official website of Ministry of Home Affairs was not accessible on February 12 , prompting authorities to look into the matter. As soon as the hacking came into notice, the website was blocked by the National Informatics Centre which maintains all the government websites.
Minsitry spokesperson K.S. Dhatwalia told IANS, “I don’t know when the site developed the snag. Details will be available after we find out the glitches.” We are probing the matter and no surety can be given on when the website would become functional.
According to sources, the problem most probably began early in the morning of February 12, however, the Computer emergency response teams are investigating the matter. Earlier, the reports of the Home Affairs website being hacked was denied by the spokesperson.
As many as 700 websites including that of many central and state government departments have been hacked in the last four years and about 8000 people are arrested for their role in it, as per the official data.
Lack of proper security arrangements is the reason cited by many cyber security experts due to which many Indian websites keep getting hacked on a regular basis.
Earlier, the official website of National Security Guard was hacked after which several messages were found against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the website also had anti-India content.
