Manmohan Singh visited more countries than Narendra Modi: Amit Shah

Amit Shah said that the number of Narendra Modi's foreign visits appear to be higher because when his predecessor used to travel, no one got to know about the trips

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah on Thursday attacked the Congress for making an issue out of nothing claiming that former prime minister Manmohan Singh visited more countries than his successor Narendra Modi. Speaking at an event in Palampur in Himachal Pradesh on Thursday, Shah said: “Our opponents make an issue of PM Modi’s foreign visits but as per figures Manmohan Singh ji visited more countries than Modi Ji.”

He also added that the number of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign visits appear to be higher because when his predecessor used to travel, no one got to know about the trips. “Number of PM Modi’s foreign visits appear higher because when Manmohan SinghJi used to go no one got to know when he went came back,” he said.

In the initial 25 months of his term in office as the Prime Minister, Modi reportedly made 27 international trips to nearly 43 countries. His trips have often come under the scanner of opposition parties, especially the Congress. The opposition has been claiming that the Prime Minister’s visit have not benefitted in any way. “The Prime Minister travels to various nations but there is hardly any result from these visits for India,” Congress spokesperson RPN Singh had earlier said.

Applauding BJP governments in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, Shah said that they no longer belong to the BIMARU states. “When we governed Bihar, it was on verge of getting rid of BIMARU state tag. It is due to our governments in MP and Chhattisgarh that they do not belong to the BIMARU category anymore,” he said.
